The Cv That Tells The Truth

Most Pakistani CVs are three pages long, written in size 11 Times New Roman, and start with a paragraph called Career Objective. They list every course taken since matric, every certificate from a two-day workshop, and a long row of skills that read like a dictionary entry. Hardworking, dedicated, passionate self-starter, team player, quick learner. None of these words mean anything to a person hiring. They are the wallpaper of unemployment.

A CV that gets a callback in 2026 is one page. It is in a clean modern font, eleven or twelve point. It has four sections in this order. Header with your full name, phone, email, city, and a single link to LinkedIn or a portfolio. Experience, in reverse order, with each role described in three bullets that begin with verbs and end with numbers. Education, two lines per degree. Skills, no more than eight, each one a tool you have actually used in the last year. That is the whole shape.

A few Pakistan-specific notes. Add your CNIC only if the role explicitly asks for it; a foreign client does not want it and a local one will ask later. If you freelance, add your NTN below your name once it is issued; that single line tells a tax filer client that you can issue a proper invoice. References are not listed by name on a CV in 2026. Write, references available on request, and only share names when asked, after telling those references they may get a call. Calling someone a reference without warning them is a breach of trust that travels.

Photograph or no photograph. The honest answer is, it depends. For a Pakistani government job a passport sized photograph is still expected. For a job at a Karachi tech startup or any foreign role, do not include one. Photos invite bias on age, on gender, on whether you wear hijab, on how light or dark your skin is. None of this should matter; all of it does. The professional choice is to send your CV without a photo and let the work speak first. The hiring manager will see your face at the interview, by which point your CV has already done its job.

Last block. Save the file as YourName-CV.pdf, never as cv-final-final-version-3.docx. PDF preserves the layout on every machine. The file name is the first thing the recruiter sees in their inbox. Make it dignified. If you are sending the CV from a personal email, that email should be your name, not lover-boy-786 or coolgirl91. None of this is fair, all of it is real, and a one-hour cleanup of your file names and email handle pays for itself the first time a recruiter forwards your CV to her boss without flinching.
