Add the smaller numbers first if they are easy. Twenty plus thirty is fifty, then add forty to get ninety. Or group numbers that make round tens. Forty and sixty make one hundred. Spotting these pairs is faster than adding in order.
Today's habit. Next time you go shopping with a parent, ask if you can do the math out loud. Add the prices, predict the change, then check the receipt or the coins. If you are right, smile. If you are wrong, find where the slip happened.
