One smooth downward curve, no shoulder. Start a little above the baseline, slope gently down and to the left, and let the tail dip just below the line before lifting the pen. No dots, no extra marks.
For parents
ر belongs to the same family as د and ذ, the letters that connect rightward but never leftward. Children who have just learned د will instinctively want to add a shoulder; gently point out that ر slopes from the start. The tail dips below the baseline, which is one of the first times your child is asked to break the line. Let them feel that small descent.
ر is the first letter where your child crosses the baseline. Tell them the line on the page is not a fence; it is a horizon, and ر is allowed to pass beneath it.
