The empathy economy: interview a Pakistani care worker
Pakistan runs on care work that almost nobody pays attention to. A nurse at Mayo or Aga Khan, a government school teacher in Garhi Shahu, a BPO call agent in Mall One Tower, a midwife in Multan, a hospice attendant. They burn empathy all day for low pay and lower status. Today you sit with one of them for thirty minutes and ask, with a notebook open, what care actually costs the carer.
