Practical exercise

Write a permission letter to yourself

You will spend twenty-five minutes today writing a private letter to yourself, by hand, that names the pressures you carry and gives yourself permission to feel them. The letter is for you only. Nobody else has to see it, ever.

Stretch

Repeat the practice once a quarter. Save all the letters in a single envelope marked private. After two years, you will have eight snapshots of your inner life and the curve of your own growth.

Goes into your portfolio

A handwritten letter sealed in an envelope marked Open in seven days, kept privately. No copy in the public portfolio; the act of keeping a private artifact is itself the artifact.
