Practical exercise

Write a five line note to yourself, today

This week's practical is small on purpose. We are not asking you to fix anything, talk to anyone, or change your life. We are asking you to write five lines, on a real piece of paper, to yourself, in your own handwriting. Five lines that name what is sitting on you right now. You do not need to share these with anyone. Tomorrow morning, you will read them once, and that is the whole exercise. The point is to give the pressure a witness, even if the only witness is you.

Stretch

If the five lines came out easy, do the same exercise on Friday after Asr, with the same five prompts. Then on the next Friday. Three Fridays of five lines is fifteen lines of self knowledge. By the third week, you will already see one pattern about yourself that you did not know on the first.

Goes into your portfolio

A photograph of your folded handwritten page on top of your kitaab or pillow, taken before you read it the next morning. The contents stay private; the photo is just proof to yourself that you sat with the pressure honestly for ten minutes.
