Inference Q and A on a Manto piece

You will read one Manto short piece, write five questions whose answers are not stated in the text but are inferable from it, and then answer your own five questions with line numbers as evidence. The exercise sounds odd. It is the single most powerful inference workout a student can do.

Inference Q and A on a Manto piece

Stretch

Repeat with a non Manto writer to feel how inference shifts by style. Premchand asks for different inferences than Manto. Quratulain Hyder asks for yet others. The exercise is the same; the muscle gets stronger.

Goes into your portfolio

One sheet titled inference-NN with the piece title, five inference questions, five evidence backed answers, and a short note on the disagreement with a partner.
