G has two sounds, hard like 'goat' and soft like 'giant'. Like with C, teach the hard sound first. The soft G appears mostly before E, I, or Y. Lowercase g is one of the trickiest letters because its tail dips below the baseline. Most of the alphabet sits on the baseline, so this descender takes practice.

G is a circle that does not stop at the line. It dips below, swings, and comes back. Letters with descenders teach the hand to move beyond the safe zone.
