For parents
'y' is one of three letters with a descender that curves left, alongside 'g' and 'j'. Practising all three together helps the hand build the same muscle motion. 'y' is also tricky because it has two sounds: it acts like a consonant in 'yes' and 'yaar', and like a vowel in 'sky' and 'fly'. Pakistani children pick up the consonant sound easily because it matches the Urdu 'ye'. The vowel sound takes more practice.
'y' for yaar, the friend who walks with you. Two lines come down, meet, and one keeps going underground. A real friend goes deeper than the surface.
